Hiking in Southwest Michigan

Some of the most invigorating and beautiful hiking in the Midwest is found in Southwest Michigan.

Warren Dunes State Park, located at 12032 Red Arrow Hwy, Sawyer, offers a good variety of hiking trails.  If you are looking for a challenge with a sensational view of Lake Michigan, take one of the trails to the top of these well known sand dunes.  Warren Dunes overlooks 2.5 miles of pristine Lake Michigan shoreline.

Berrien County Parks offer a great variety of gorgeous trails to explore, ranging from the easy level trails, to the complex and hillier trails.  There is a wonderful three-mile trail at Madeline Betrand and a heartier trail covering five miles at Love Creek.

The Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve is located at 13988 Range Line Road, in Niles. This 55-acre jewel has several well-marked trails, some of which will take you right down to the waterfront.  The fall in particular is magnificent, but each season brings out a new and different beauty of the land.  After your hike you will want to stop in the Fernwood Cafe, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch and watch the others return from their hikes.

Hiking at the Warren Woods State Park at 12032 Red Arrow Hwy, Sawyer, is something you won't want to miss.  Warren Woods is only one half of a square mile, but it consists of beautiful primeval forest and features several hiking paths, including one that will take you on a foot bridge over the Galien River.

Most hikers in Southwest Michigan will tell you that the Kal-Haven Trail State Park has something for everyone.  The trails connect South Haven with Kalamazoo and consist of 34 miles of crushed limestone, well-maintained hiking trails.  Beautiful in summer, fall, winter and spring; your trails will take you through beautiful woods, farms, rivers and streams. In the winter they also serve as one of the most popular snowmobiling trails in Michigan.
